NBTE – Goiás Reforestation Program – Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park (PNCV)

The reforestation project in Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park (PNCV), located in Alto Paraíso (GO), reflects NBTE’s commitment to conserving the Cerrado biome. Developed as a compensatory measure for the impacts caused by the construction of the Porto Velho – Araraquara 2 transmission line, the initiative aims to restore degraded areas, promote biodiversity, and strengthen ecological balance in one of Brazil’s richest regions in terms of species diversity.

Key Objectives of the Project

Restore 94 hectares of degraded areas in the strict sense of the Cerrado biome.

Reduce the coverage of invasive exotic species.

Promote an increase in the diversity of native species.

Establish effective restoration techniques based on direct seeding.

Contribute to the long-term conservation of the Cerrado biome.

Results Achieved

Execution Period: 2015 to 2018

Restored area: 94 hectares of Cerrado, with intensive management on 12 hectares.

Biodiversity: Significant increase in the diversity of native species. Studies show approximately 80 tree species per hectare and 160 herb and shrub species.

Efficiency of native species: Vernonia aurea proved effective in combating exotic grasses, promoting natural balance

Reduction of exotic species: Controlled invasive coverage allowed native vegetation to establish.

Project Phases

Soil Preparation
  • Plowing and harrowing to improve infiltration and species growth.
  • Preparing the land for direct seeding.
Direct Seeding
  • Planting native species seeds directly into the soil.
  • Using species adapted to the strict conditions of the Cerrado.
Monitoring and Adaptive Management
  • Continuous monitoring to evaluate species development.
  • Managing exotic vegetation and replanting in areas with low regeneration density.

Positive Impact

This project reinforces the role of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in preserving the Cerrado biome, demonstrating that ecological restoration through direct seeding is an efficient and viable strategy. Beyond restoring local biodiversity, the initiative provides a replicable model for other degraded areas, promoting ecological, scientific, and social benefits.
