MTE – Pará Reforestation Program

The reforestation project in the Rio Xingu Extractive Reserve (Resex) and APA Triunfo do Xingu, located in Pará, reflects Manaus Transmissora de Energia’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Developed in partnership with organizations such as Instituto Socioambiental (ISA), AMOMEX, and ICMBio, the program aims to restore degraded areas and foster the local economy through agroforestry practices and natural regeneration.

Key Objectives of the Project

Restore 111.44 hectares of degraded areas using native vegetation and agroforestry systems.

Promote sustainable development in local communities, generating income and creating opportunities for product commercialization.

Contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in protected areas.

Results Achieved

Execution Period: 2020 to 2022

Recovered area: 111.44 hectares, including 70 hectares in Resex Rio Xingu and 41.44 hectares in APA Triunfo do Xingu.

Implementation of agroforestry systems with native species such as cacao and banana, promoting economic sustainability.

Generation of over R$ 150,000.00 in annual income for local communities, strengthening the regional economy.

Project Phases

Diagnosis and Planning (2020–2021):
  • Identification of priority areas and establishment of partnerships with local communities and environmental institutions.
Area Preparation (2021):
  • Mobilization of local teams, training, and clearing areas using sustainable techniques to ensure the germination of native seeds.
Planting (2022):
  • Planting on 15 hectares, using 33 native seed species, overcoming climatic and logistical challenges.
Monitoring and Maintenance (2022):
  • Evaluation of the development of planted areas, with a satisfactory germination rate and the application of fertilization to enrich the soil.

Positive Impact

The program left a significant legacy for riverside and Indigenous communities, integrating environmental restoration practices with sustainable income generation. Additionally, the project contributed to the conservation of biodiversity in the region, strengthening the protection of the Xingu and Triunfo do Xingu ecosystems.
